Center of Systems Molecular Medicine launches a MARS program for medicine and AI research

The Center of System Molecular Medicine (CoSMM), in collaboration with the Clinical and Translational Science Institute (CTSI) and the Institute for Health and Equity, has launched a Program for Medicine and AI Research (MARS) at MCW.  The MARS program will serve as an intellectual home for AI research at MCW to facilitate collaboration and project development.  Current members of the MARS program are involved in the research on machine learning methodologies, the application of AI in healthcare and medical and biomedical research, the ethics of AI, and educational implications of AI.

Please contact Kristin Nord (knord@mcw.edu) if you would like to be part of the MARS program.  Any MCW faculty, staff and student with an interest in AI research in medicine is welcome to join MARS.

MARs is helping to organize a workshop for Fusion 2019.  Fabrice Jotterand has put together the following outline for the workshop (thank you, Fabrice!).  Topics of focus may include the influence of AI on the healthcare workforce and AI bias.  We would love to get your thoughts on this.  Specifically, we would welcome any suggestions on who could give each of the four short talks.  Feel free to nominate yourself.  Ask Fabrice, Brad or me if you have any questions.  We would like to finalize this in the next few days.  Thanks!

Tentative Title: Emerging Challenges and Opportunities of AI in Medicine (90 minute session)

  1. Introductory comments about MARs and the session (5 min.)
  2. Scientific perspective (10 min.)
  3. Clinical perspective (10 min.)
  4. Ethical considerations (10 min.)
  5. Implications for medical education (10 min.)
  6. Panel discussion including all speakers + moderator (45 min.)
